Living Longer, Healthier: The ‘Blue Zone’ Secrets to Aging

Living Longer, Healthier: The ‘Blue Zone’ Secrets to Aging

A free program about the Blue Zones – the five places where people live longer and healthier than anywhere else on Earth – will be held April 25 at 1 p.m. at The Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive in West Hartford.

This program of Jewish Women International will be led by Michelle Wyman, a dementia specialist at the Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging.

Blue Zones, as described in a 2005 National Geographic story, are Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Icaria (Greece); and the areas where Seventh-day Adventists live in Loma Linda, Calif.

Research has shown that those who live in these Blue Zones share common characteristics: a life purpose, reduced stress, moderate calorie intake, a plant-based diet, moderate alcohol intake, regular physical activity, spirituality or religion engagement and involvement in an active family and community life.

Seating is limited and registration is required. To RSVP, call Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging at 1.877.424.4641.
