Everyone Ride/Run Against Cancer Everyday (ERRACE) Holds Anniversary Ride July 13

With a goal of inspiring the community to be physically active and health conscious, while raising awareness and funding for cancer research, a group of professionals launched Everyone Ride/Run Against Cancer Everyday (ERRACE) a decade ago.

On Saturday, July 13, the group will host an anniversary ride, run and walk fundraiser at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, part of the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, at 40 Fisher Drive, Avon.

On-site registration starts at 6 a.m., with rides starting at 7 a.m. and going throughout the morning. The day includes 24-, 50- and 100-mile bike rides, a 10-mile mountain bike ride, a 5K walk/run, chance to see a Ferrari Concorso in the exotic car corral, wellness tents, family friendly activities and food.

ERRACE was started by Allison Caputo, an Avon woman who died from cancer in 2012.

“We wanted a mechanism not only to give back to the institutions that supported her but also the Livestrong Foundation. Lance Armstrong was a big inspiration for her,” said her husband, Dr. Andrew Caputo, an orthopedic surgeon at Hartford Hospital and executive director of ERRACE.

“We wanted to create an event that incorporated biking, which is my passion, and running, which was her passion, to inspire others to stay fit, be aware of their bodies, challenge themselves to do something they hadn’t done before.”

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Livestrong and the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center. To date, the run/walk has raised about $358,000 for the Cancer Center alone.

Registration for the event, which takes place rain or shine, runs through July 6, 2019. To pre-register, volunteer or for more information, go to www.bikereg.com/errace.
