Webinar: Are Varicose Veins Slowing You Down?

Varicose veins are a common condition, affecting up to 3 in 10 adults. Women are more likely to develop them than men. To learn more about causes and symptoms, join an upcoming webinar hosted by Hartford HealthCare.

Join Edward Gifford, MD, Director of Vascular Surgery at Backus Hospital, to learn about the symptoms, causes, and the latest treatments for varicose veins. A live question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

The webinar, Are Varicose Veins Slowing You Down, will be on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 5-6 p.m.

Varicose veins, which are twisted, bulging veins close to the skin’s surface, are signs of a milder type of venous disease called venous insufficiency syndrome. Spider veins, web-like clusters of dilated veins usually red or blue that often appear on the face and legs, are sometimes found together with varicose veins.

Treatment depends on the severity of the disease, the size of the veins and whether reflux is present. Of greater concern are the people with active venous ulcers, associated with a reduced quality of life, physical function and mobility.
