It’s an overwhelming sense of grief and heartache that can affect your entire life, but seeking help after the loss of a loved one can help you carry on.
The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, with the Wolfson Palliative Care Program, is offering a free eight-week Bereavement Support Workshop with professional and peer support for anyone grieving a loss.
The workshops will be weekly on Wednesdays starting Jan.12. There will be in-person sessions at The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and a second session conducted virtually via Zoom from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
“Grief is a process that is unique to each of us,” said Caitlin McPhelimy, LPC, a clinician with the Cancer Institute’s Quality of Life Program. “Everyone experiences different levels of grief and progresses through it at different paces. We simply want to offer a combination of psycho-education, professional guidance and the support of others in the same situation as a way equip anyone who is grieving with the skills and tools that will help them get through.”
The groups will be facilitated by Nadine Toce, LCSW, from the palliative care program at The Hospital of Central Connecticut. Toce, who has an extensive background in bereavement counseling, has run many similar workshops in-person before the pandemic.
Group size is limited, so registration is required by going to hartfordhealthcare.org/virtualclasses or calling 855.HHC.HERE (1.855.442.4373). After registering, the group leader will reach out to speak with you about your interest and eligibility, and log-in information will be sent.
