The Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital was recognized as a 2023 Outpatient Joint Replacement Excellence Award recipient by Healthgrades. This achievement reflects the Institute’s outstanding clinical outcomes for outpatient knee and hip replacement and distinguishes it in the top 5% nationwide for outpatient joint replacement.
“This award is a true testament to the work our team has developed to ensure the safety and quality of the care our patients receive,” said Bimal Patel, president of Hartford Hospital. “Safety is one of our core values. We are continuously evaluating our practices to ensure they lead the industry. It is particularly notable that we were awarded this recognition based on data at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic – a particularly challenging time for everyone in healthcare. This shows that we can excel through anything.”
Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes at short-term acute care hospitals throughout the country that offer joint replacement in the outpatient environment. This analysis included years 2019 through 2021 to identify the top-performing hospitals for outpatient knee and hip replacement.
Patients treated at hospitals that received a 2023 Outpatient Joint Replacement Excellence Award have, on average, a 50.7% lower risk of experiencing a complication than patients treated at non-recipient hospitals.* Patients who have an outpatient joint replacement procedure at hospitals that did not receive the award are more than twice as likely to experience one or more complications than patients treated at an award recipient hospital.*
