Hartford Hospital Named Top Teaching Hospital by The Leapfrog Group

Hartford Hospital has been named a Top Teaching Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality. Only 75 hospitals in the country received this award.

The Top Teaching Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive, according to The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization known for high standards in health care safety and quality.

“Our recognition as a Top Teaching Hospital from The Leapfrog Group is a true testament of unwavering commitment to education, safety, quality, and a desire to prepare the brightest minds for the future of medicine,” said Bimal Patel, president of Hartford Hospital and senior vice president of Hartford HealthCare. “We take this responsibility very seriously and are incredibly proud that the work done here every day is recognized nationally as the highest level of care.”

The quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

To qualify for the distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety and achieve top performance in their category.
