HHC’s St. Vincent’s Medical Center Provides Most Advanced Stroke Care in Bridgeport

St. Vincent’s Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

St. Vincent’s underwent a rigorous, onsite review. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with program standards. The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance.

“We treat the most severe strokes with the latest, cutting-edge technology,” says Kelly Matmati, MD, chair of the department of neurology and stroke program director. “We are the only certified Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center in the Bridgeport area. This new certification recognizes the high level of care we are providing and the unique capabilities that are not available at primary stroke centers.”
