Bio

Dr. Mehla is a Neurologist with subspecialty training in Vascular Neurology, Headache Medicine and Facial Pain. She works at the Hartford HealthCare Headache Center at our Norwich location.

Dr. Mehla was born and brought up in India where she completed her medical school before moving to the United States. After working in stroke research for one year, Dr. Mehla completed her adult neurology residency training at the State University of New York in Buffalo, NY where she also served as a Chief Resident. She then completed Vascular Neurology/Stroke Fellowship training at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA. After her stroke training, Dr. Mehla completed one year of Headache and Facial Pain Fellowship at our own Hartford HealthCare Headache Center and then joined our team. She also works at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT and has board certifications in General Neurology, Vascular Neurology and Headache Medicine.

Dr. Mehla is highly passionate of both headache medicine and stroke. She participates in the advocacy programs for headache and attended Headache on the Hill in 2020 to advocate for people with headache. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Headache Society and American Heart Associate/American Stroke Association. A focused practitioner, Dr. Mehla is eager at medical research having won two research presentation awards during her residency training. She also received the “Edward Fogan Award,” presented to the resident who exemplifies the highest standards in neurology practice. During her headache fellowship, Dr. Mehla received the “Frontiers in Headache Research Award” from the American Headache Society amongst other honors during her medical stint. Dr. Mehla is an ardent academician as well, undertaking regular lectures about Headache and Neurology. She also serves as an Assistant Professor, Neurology at the University of Connecticut.
