Dr Tomak took as much time as necessary to thoroughly go over my condition and care plan. Throughout treatment he was always available and compassionate. He performed a cervical fusion that went extremely well. I can’t say enough about what a wonderful person and gifted surgeon Dr Tomak is. Everyone I speak to say the same thing. I’m a patient of Dr. Tomak. He did a cervical spine surgery 2018 to remove a tumor from my spinal cord and fused together since then I have no tumor. He’s an excellent surgeon and yes I do recommend him.

My consult with Dr. Tomak exceeded my expectations. He was easy to talk to and took the time to answer all my questions. Doctor Patrick Tomak is my new hero. My husband has suffered years of excrutiating pain after two failed surgeries done by an orthopedic surgeon which involved installing two screws that never set. Before that, the same orthopedic surgeon performed a minimal procedure which also failed. My husband was like an old disabled cripple having to depend on a scooter, a walker, a cane, shopping carts, and more just to get around. He was taking oxies for years four times a day to mask the pain. And then we found a Doctor Patrick Tomak. He performed back surgery on my husband a couple of weeks ago where he removed the two screws that were foreign objects in his body that ever set or worked, and performed his highly skilled operation which involved a cage and much longer screws making the whole thing very safe and secure in his back. The moment I saw my husband in recovery, I knew he was a new man. And I know that he got his life back to where he can live like a normal human being and not an old disabled reclusive cripple who could not enjoy the fun things in life due to nonstop excrutiating pain. Thank you so much, Doctor Tomak. You are a true hero in my eyes. I will be forever grateful to you and your amazing staff.

Patrick Tomak, MD, is a neurosurgeon and spine specialist with Hartford HealthCare’s Ayer Neuroscience Institute.

A seasoned neurosurgeon who had been teaching at Yale, Dr. Tomak has extensive experience with minimally-invasive and robotic surgery techniques for various neurological conditions. His areas of clinical interest include: occipital-cervical fusion; congenital abnormalities of the spine; Chiari malformations; cervical, thoracic and lumbar degenerative disorders; surgical treatment of spinal tumors, rheumatological disorders and Ankylosing Spondylitis; cervical and lumbar artificial disc surgery; thoracic disc disease; vascular malformations; lateral approaches to the spine; anterior lumbar spine surgery; minimally-invasive discectomies, lumbar fusions and invasive stabilization and decompression; treatment of lumbar stenosis, spondylolisthesis and scoliosis; treatment of metastatic spinal tumors; robotic spinal surgery; and transnasal endoscopic surgery for pituitary tumors and skull-based tumors.

Board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Tomak earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in neurological surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Congress of Neurologic Surgeons, New England Neurosurgical Society, New Haven Medical Society, American Association of Neurologic Surgeons and North American Skull Based Society.
