Step 1: Onboarding

We need your help with these tasks so you can start working

You must complete all pre-employment steps before orientation. If you don't finish all the steps, you can't start work and won't be able to attend remote orientation. If you are no longer able to start employment as originally planned and need to discuss changing your start date, please contact your recruiter prior to taking any steps related to your remote orientation.

Take Two Pictures for your ID Badge
Save them in a place you'll remember; we'll need them right before you start work

First, find a background for the photos

Try to find a solid blue background (unless you're a temporary or per diem employee – then try to find a solid red background). If you can't find the background you need, just use a solid white background.

Make sure you don't use a digital 'filter' because they distort the image.

Next, take one picture of yourself holding a photo ID with your name
see sample 1 below

Stand in front of the solid background. Then hold any current photo ID close to your face and take a close-up picture with a cell phone or camera. This can be a ‘selfie’ because it’s just so we can confirm who you are.

Finally, take the picture for your ID badge
see sample 2 below

Stand in front of the solid background and take a 'shoulders-up' picture of yourself with a cell phone or camera. Make sure the bottom of the image is at your shoulders and the top of the image is just above your head.

Your manager will tell you how to get your ID badge during your first week of work.

Save the photos and wait for us to email you
We'll contact you right before you start with information about where to send them

Store the photos in a place you'll easily remember so they're ready to send when it's time to share the pictures with one of our ID badge offices.

Verify Identity and Work Authorization: Completing the I-9 Form
Bring documentation for verification as soon as possible

Every employer is required by the government to complete an employment eligibility form (also known as an 'I-9') to verify who you are and your ability to work. An I-9 for your new position must be completed by the end of your 3rd day of employment to allow you to work.

You started the I-9 form online with your onboarding paperwork, but it is not fully completed until Human Resources verifies your identification in person. You may bring documentation for verification to any Hartford Healthcare Human Resources department during the times listed below as soon as you sign your offer letter. Click here to see the list of acceptable documents for this process.

If you don’t complete this step within 3 business days of starting work for pay, we can’t complete the required forms on time and the government won’t let you legally continue working with Hartford HealthCare.

Get Ready for Remote Orientation

You’ll complete required training remotely on your first day of work using our online learning platform.  Do not start your required training before your start date.  Content may be updated before your start date, therefore, any learning completed ahead of time may not be complete or accurate and may not satisfy your remote orientation requirements.  

On your assigned orientation day, you will complete your entire first day of work remotely to protect your safety. 

  • Plan ahead for a successful day by finding a quiet space free from distractions where you can do your learning assignments.
  • Make sure you have your employee identification number. If you can't find it, check for an email from Hartford HealthCare Human Resources or log in to your new hire portal here. You can also contact your recruiter or call the Employee Service Center at 860.696.3500.

Step 2: Remote Orientation

This orientation is a little different to protect your safety

Complete your training remotely on HealthStream, our online learning platform

  • Click below to launch HealthStream.
  • Follow the instructions on the right side of the page for entering your User ID and password. If you can’t find or didn't receive your employee ID number, you can access it through your new hire portal by clicking here, contact your recruiter, or call the Employee Service Center at 860.696.3500.
  • Once HealthStream opens, click “To Do” at the top of the page.

Take the Courses in This Order
Pace yourself: Remote Orientation is designed to take eight hours to complete

1. HHC Learning Management System Training (15 minutes)
2. A View into Hartford HealthCare - Welcome (12 minutes)
3. HHC Required Learning (2 hours and 30 minutes)

Be sure to take a 30 minute break for lunch - this is an unpaid break.

4. H3W Leadership Behaviors Video (1 hour and 10 minutes)
5. Preventing Discrimination and Harassment for Health Care eLearning (2 hours)

Finish Orientation
You're almost done with your first day

Plan to finish by 4:30 PM. You may find that the courses take a few minutes longer than expected, but we still want to make sure you stop working after your full, eight-hour day. 

If you're not done with your courses after eight hours – don't worry – just save your work and stop for the day. When you arrive at work, please let your manager know that you have some assignments to complete from your remote orientation.

Step 3: Report to work

Your first couple steps are in the rear-view mirror. Time to get started.
