U.S. News & World Report has been releasing its “Best Hospitals: Specialty Rankings” since 1990, identifying hospitals that excel in treating particularly difficult patients. In the 2020-21 Rankings, Hartford Hospital is ranked number 1 in Hartford and among the best in Connecticut and is rated as high performing in one adult specialty - nephrology - and eight procedures and conditions - colon cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, heart failure, knee replacement, hip replacement and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Joint Commission Accreditation
Hartford Hospital again earned its three-year accreditation from the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is an independent, non-profit organization that administers volunteer accreditation programs for hospitals and other healthcare organizations. Earning accreditation demonstrates to patients, families, staff and the community that Hartford Hospital is deeply committed to providing safe, high-quality treatment and services.

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)
The Partnership for Breast Care received a Three Year Accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The NAPBC defines 27 program standards and 17 program components of care that collectively provide the most efficient and contemporary care available for patients diagnosed with diseases of the breast. Accreditation indicates the institution is "Dedicated to improving the quality of care and monitoring for patients with diseases of the breast.

STS 3-Star Highest Composite Quality Rating
Hartford Hospital once again received the prestigious STS 3-star highest composite quality rating for all mitral valve categories, making it the only center in Connecticut to consistently benefit from this recognition.

Mission: Lifeline Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award
Timely, specialized treatment is critical when it comes to an ST-elevated heart attack, also known as a STEMI heart attack, the most severe type of heart attack caused by blockage of blood flow to the heart. The American Heart Association (AHA) has again recognized Hartford Hospital’s efforts to improve care for STEMI heart attack patients, honoring its work with the Mission: Lifeline Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award. Last year, Hartford Hospital’s response times placed it among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation – exceeding the AHA’s recommendation of 90-minutes or less “door-to-balloon” time (D2B) for STEMI heart attacks – a way to measure how much time has passed between when the patient arrives in the Emergency Department and when a balloon is inserted into the artery to treat the blockage.

American College of Radiology (ACR) Gold Seal of Accreditation
The Department of Radiology was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in both nuclear medicine and PET scan by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Together, they assess image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

Hartford Hospital's Surgical Weight Loss Program is an MBSAQIP Accredited Center - The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) works to advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients through the accreditation of bariatric surgical centers.

Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center
Hartford Hospital earned recertification from the Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. To be eligible, hospitals must demonstrate compliance with stroke-related standards as a Primary Stroke Center and meet additional requirements, including those related to advanced imaging capabilities, 24/7 availability of specialized treatments, and providing staff with the competencies to care for complex stroke patients. Hartford Hospital is only one of two certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers in the state and provides care for the most complex patients.

Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Quality Achievement Award
Earned the hospital the American Heart Association/Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Quality Achievement Award. The hospital met quality measures for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with stroke, while demonstrating commitment to reducing the time between a patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster medication, tissue plasminogen activator (tPA).
